Rose to $83,214 (24H +0.9%) from about $82,488 24 hours earlier. The 7-day change widened from −1.2% the day before to −2.0%, and the 30-day gain widened from +4.4% to +6.1%. BTC sits about 34.0% below its all-time high ($126,080) and about 5.0% below its January 1 price of $87,570, and about 3.9% above $80,000. In US hours (early morning on October 9 in Japan) BTC fell sharply: Bitcoin Magazine reported a drop to about $80,922 and Cryptopolitan reported a temporary dip to $79,000, but it recovered to the $83,000s by Tokyo evening. The backdrop was Brent crude climbing to about $104 after renewed tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz (Cryptopolitan), President Trump hinting that talks with Iran are not going as he wants, and Fed Governor Waller saying more rate hikes may be needed (Bitcoin Magazine); US stocks also fell, with the Nasdaq down −1.2% and the S&P 500 down −0.6% (Cryptopolitan). US spot BTC ETFs recorded net outflows of $244.1 million on October 8, a second straight day of outflows after $484.9 million the day before, for about $729 million over the two days. By fund, Fidelity’s FBTC lost $197.1 million, ARKB $20.3 million, Bitwise’s BITB $17.7 million and Grayscale’s GBTC $8.2 million, while BlackRock’s IBIT shed only $5.5 million (HedgeCo.Net). Liquidations over 24 hours were $698.2 million in longs and $142.3 million in shorts across 158,431 events, with the largest single liquidation an ETHUSDT position of $11.9 million and 2 cascades, the largest at $601.2 million. On sentiment gauges, the retail euphoria index was 66 (EUPHORIA, from 69 the day before), Coinbase Premium was −0.08% for a 34th straight day below zero (from −0.06%), and VPIN was 0.14, the 60th percentile over 90 days (from 0.13 and the 44th percentile). In options, the Put/Call open-interest ratio was 0.58 (from 0.57) and DVOL 37.6 (from 36.7); the call wall stayed at $95,000 and the put wall at $80,000. Fell to $2,505.43 (24H −1.2%) from about $2,536.37 24 hours earlier. The 7-day change widened from −5.5% to −7.4%, the second weakest of the 10 majors after DOGE, while the 30-day gain narrowed from +2.0% to +0.8%. ETH dominance slipped from 11.09% to 10.94%. US spot Ether ETFs lost about $72.5 million on October 8, an eighth straight day of outflows, bringing the total since September 29 to about $641.3 million (HedgeCo.Net).
Fell to $743.24 (24H −2.5%) from about $762.06 24 hours earlier, slipping below $750. The drop is the fourth largest among the majors after ADA, AVAX and DOGE. The 7-day change widened from −0.8% to −3.7%, and the 30-day change turned negative at −1.2%, from +3.2%.
Edged up to $1.40 (24H +0.2%), roughly flat versus about $1.40 24 hours earlier. It is one of only three majors to rise, alongside BTC and HYPE. The 7-day change widened slightly from −6.0% to −6.2%, third weakest after DOGE and ETH, and the 30-day change turned negative at −1.1%, from +0.2%. XRP dominance was unchanged at 3.16%. Evernorth (XRPN), expected to hold about 473 million XRP, has had its Nasdaq trading debut pushed to October 12 after an administrative delay.
Fell to $111.25 (24H −1.7%) from about $113.15 24 hours earlier. The 7-day change widened from −3.8% to −6.1%, fourth weakest after DOGE, ETH and XRP, while the 30-day gain narrowed from +9.5% to +7.6%. On Solana, Securitize launched tokenized US stocks on October 8, backed one-to-one by shares including Apple, Nvidia and Strategy (The Block). It follows the Samsung Wallet USDC transfer support announced the day before (rolling out in the last week of October), but SOL fell again over 24 hours.
Fell to $0.3332 (24H −0.7%) from about $0.3356 24 hours earlier. After being the only major to rise the day before, it turned lower today. The 7-day decline narrowed from −0.6% to −0.5%, the smallest among the 10 majors, and the 30-day change turned negative at −1.6%, from +0.3%.
Rose to $86.14 (24H +0.9%) from about $85.38 24 hours earlier, rebounding from −3.5% the day before (the biggest drop among the 10 majors) and holding the $85 support. The 7-day change narrowed from −5.4% to −1.7%. The 30-day figure remains unavailable. The all-time high of $98 is about 14% away.
Fell to $0.08498 (24H −2.5%) from about $0.08714 24 hours earlier. The 7-day change widened from −7.5% to −9.9%, the weakest of the 10 majors, and the 30-day change worsened from −3.4% to −5.6%. Bitwise’s spot Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) reaches its final trading day on NYSE Arca on October 14, with a cash distribution scheduled for October 22; CoinGabbar reports assets of only about $726,000.
Fell to $0.2399 (24H −3.9%) from about $0.2497 24 hours earlier, the biggest drop among the 10 majors and a wider decline than −1.1% the day before. The 7-day change turned negative at −2.6%, from +1.8%; ADA was the only major with a positive 7-day change the day before, and today all 10 majors are negative over seven days. The 30-day gain narrowed from +13.8% to +9.3%, still second behind AVAX. In futures, ADAUSDT had the largest open-interest change over 24 hours at −11.9% (price −3.5%), a long squeeze.
Fell to $10.41 (24H −3.0%) from about $10.73 24 hours earlier, the second-largest drop after ADA. The 7-day change widened from −1.5% to −5.2%. The 30-day gain narrowed from +33.4% to +30.0%, still the highest among the 10 majors.
From the previous day (October 8) to today (October 9), total market cap shrank −0.9% from $2.96T to $2.94T. BTC rose 0.9% over 24 hours to $83,214 from about $82,488, while ETH fell 1.2% to $2,505.43 from about $2,536.37, so the two diverged. Among the 10 majors, 7 fell (down from 9 the day before) and BTC (+0.9%), HYPE (+0.9%) and XRP (+0.2%) rose. The largest drops were ADA (−3.9%), AVAX (−3.0%), and BNB and DOGE (both −2.5%). BTC dominance rose from 59.30% to 59.74%, ETH dominance fell from 11.09% to 10.94%, and XRP dominance was unchanged at 3.16%. The Fear & Greed Index fell 5 points from 64 to 59, staying in Greed territory but declining for a third straight day (73 on 10/6, 71 on 10/7). 24H volume fell about 53.7% from $419.9B to $194.5B, cooling from the previous day’s surge, and the number of active coins rose from 12,034 to 12,327.
The moves were driven by rates, oil and Fed remarks that overlapped in US hours, together with ETF outflows. According to Bitcoin Magazine, Brent crude rose after renewed tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and Governor Waller said further hikes may be needed. Cryptopolitan noted that 10-year and 30-year Treasury yields hit 24-year highs this week before easing, that St. Louis Fed President Musalem signaled that hikes may be needed, and that October 10 marks exactly one year since the 2025 crash, all as sources of caution. US spot BTC ETFs saw net outflows on both October 7 (−$484.9 million) and October 8 (−$244.1 million), and spot ETH ETFs recorded an eighth straight day of outflows. Liquidations over 24 hours were weighted toward longs ($698.2 million versus $142.3 million for shorts), pointing to a leverage flush during the US-hours drop. According to Galaxy Research, the US government sent 8,428 BTC to Coinbase Prime on Wednesday, October 7, its largest single-day outflow since December 2024 (9,261 BTC, about $770 million, over two days with the 834 BTC moved the day before); Coinbase Prime holds and trades seized assets on behalf of the US Marshals Service, so a deposit alone does not confirm a sale (Cryptopolitan). On the other side, The Block reports that JPMorgan estimates about $50 billion has flowed into crypto so far this year and sees positive flow momentum into Q4 on rising ETF flows and futures positioning. CoinGabbar also relayed Citrini Research’s view that fee-earning platforms such as Coinbase, Robinhood and Circle may fare better than BTC or ETH in tokenized finance, and its warning that “rising volume alone does not lift token prices.” Japan’s Ministry of Finance held the first meeting of its study group on tokenizing government bonds on October 8, with a report planned around January 2027 (Cryptopolitan).
Beyond the 10 majors, extra pick ZEC rose to $1,234.06 (24H +2.1%) from $1,207.12 the day before, the only gainer among the three extra picks, following the SEC filing for a spot Zcash ETF (ticker WINK) by Winklevoss Asset Services; the decision on the NU7 network upgrade is scheduled for October 20. SUI fell to $1.07 (24H −4.1%) and NEAR to $4.88 (24H −4.1%, from $5.12 the day before). On 30-day returns, AVAX (+30.0%), ADA (+9.3%), SOL (+7.6%), BTC (+6.1%) and ETH (+0.8%) remain positive, while DOGE (−5.6%), TRX (−1.6%), BNB (−1.2%) and XRP (−1.1%) are negative, so negative 30-day returns widened from DOGE alone the day before to four coins. All 10 majors are negative over seven days, with DOGE (−9.9%) and ETH (−7.4%) especially weak. QCP Capital’s base case for BTC in Q4 is a $80,000–$90,000 range, with $80,000–$82,000 as a buying zone and plans to reduce exposure near $88,000–$90,000 if ETF inflows do not return; its bear case is a break below $68,000–$70,000 and its bull case above $100,000 (The Block). In futures, among the 10 majors there were 0 leverage build-ups and 7 squeezes (from 1 and 3 the day before); among the top 30 perpetuals, 13 were crowded with longs and 17 saw shorts increase (also 13 and 17 the day before). The top 1,000 Hyperliquid accounts held $2.7 billion in longs against $3.7 billion in shorts, a 43% long ratio (from 42%), and Binance’s BTC long/short account ratio was 1.63, the top-trader ratio 1.53 and the taker buy/sell ratio 1.37 (from 1.85, 1.57 and 0.76). Stablecoin supply was $312.4B, up $857.3 million over 24 hours. The FOMC meeting (October 27–28) concludes 19 days from now, and moves on FOMC days have run about 2.5 times normal over 30-minute windows (across the past 17 meetings). Key dates ahead are the one-year anniversary of the crash on October 10, Evernorth’s (XRPN) Nasdaq debut on October 12, the US CPI release for September and BWOW’s final trading day on October 14, the Zcash NU7 decision on October 20, and the October 27–28 FOMC. An October hike looks unlikely, but expectations of a further hike this year remain, and the focus is whether the CPI result revives the battle around $80,000.
